Feeling excited about your next hiking trip? Let’s take it from the pros and see which essentials you should totally bring for a fun, safe, and amazing trip.
It’s in the bag!
First things first, your bag is a very important thing to consider while packing. It has to be spacious enough to hold all your valuables while not getting in the way of your hike. A good bag should be durable enough to hold weight and able to withstand any weather such as rain, sleet, or snow. Getting a weather-proof bag and cases to store items that you need to stay dry is a MUST!
As for the contents, here are the things that you need to have inside your hiking bag. Always remember to NOT bring unnecessary items that will weigh you down, unless it can’t be helped.
A hike is more than just a walk in the park. You need enough food and water to keep yourself energized throughout your trip. Adding a few more won’t hurt just in case you get into a tricky situation. Speaking of tricky situations, you need a first aid kit and pocket knife in case of injuries. If the situation escalates, you might want to use a cell phone, although it isn’t too handy in high places. In that case, you can use a whistle to call for help. Headlamps and flashlights come in handy when the night falls. While fire isn’t as handy as a headlamp, using fire starters or matches can keep you safe from the cold and insects. Trash bags can double as a blanket while some extra clothes can function as a pillow when necessary.
Save memories in a snap!
Don’t forget to snap sweet memorabilia at the summit of your trip for the folks at home. Bring your trusty camera along with a few extra batteries so you can make each moment last. Feed your Instagram some #wanderlust worthy pictures while you’re at it. Never have a dull moment again with your friends and family as you woo them with pictures along with a ton of stories to tell.
Have fun in the sun
Enjoying some fun in the sun is all fine and dandy. However, too much exposure to the sun isn’t healthy for us. Especially for us who are directly exposed to the light, we need to be extra careful with our skin. Use sunscreen and sun-protective clothes to keep the sun’s harmful rays at bay.
Most importantly… a sense of adventure!
While safety will always be everyone’s top priority, we’re all doing this for one reason – to have fun. Don’t be afraid to explore new places and meet new people. Adventure is always out there, waiting to be found by our curious minds. Just always have a navigation system or compass with you and you’re all set.
Hiking isn’t just about climbing new heights one after the other. It’s a total immersion into Nature and what it has to offer. Being a hiker means you are prepared to take on anything that comes your way. Always remember to keep track of your valuables and to be a responsible traveler.
